About SDS BinderWorks

In 2000, a group of safety professionals from the commercial construction industry met to discuss ways to improve their hazard communication programs and, more specifically, manage their ever-changing MSDS libraries. After deciding on the capabilities they needed, they conducted a thorough national search for existing MSDS vendors with the intent to simply purchase a group subscription. Although many vendors provided an expansive array of services, none were focused on what was deemed essential by the safety professionals. They were looking for a streamlined service that provided both electronic and hardcopy MSDS management, as well as a system that constantly updated their MSDS inventories. With the intent to keep hardcopy inventories as well, they didn't want to waste money printing obsolete MSDS's.

After unsuccessfully finding an MSDS management service that met their specific needs, they decided to create their own customized service for their exclusive use. The result was MSDS BinderWorks. For the first few years MSDS BinderWorks was not available to the public and was only used by the members of a construction trade association. Over time, other construction companies and their customers discovered the service and asked if they could participate as well.

As a result of increased interest, MSDS BinderWorks expanded to encompass all industries and is now available to the public. Our customers range from construction companies to school districts to food processing plants, to name a few.

We have never lost track of the reason safety professionals created MSDS BinderWorks - simplicity and accuracy. They don't want the “phone book” approach that provides millions of MSDS's that may or may not be current. They want a focused database of the products they use, with a system in place that regularly notifies them of updates for both their electronic and hardcopy inventories.

With OSHA's adoption of the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals, MSDS BinderWorks has modified its capabilities to encompass the new requirements. As such, our name also changed from MSDS BinderWorks to SDS BinderWorks to reflect these changes.

Today, SDS BinderWorks continues to adjust its service based on feedback from subscribers.
